A hotel stay doesn't stay with you. Within weeks it collapses into a single feeling — you keep the emotion and lose the details. Deja is built around that fact: each location produces one human feeling, seals it in a Byredo scent family, and sends you home carrying it.

TOP NOTE

In perfume, the top note is the first thing you meet — bright, immediate, the opening. In Deja, it's arrival.

Five Commissions

Every object is a fictional commission from a real, living artist — chosen on aesthetic conviction first.

Sophie Bodmer- Tuner

The hand of the house

Her biomorphic, hollowed vessels already behave the way every object in Deja must: excavated rather than designed, remembered rather than invented. Déjà vu in material form. One sensibility scales from a vessel to a throw — cousins, not twins, across both hotels.

Brent Wadden

The weight (Respira)

Dense flat-weave in charcoal and umber — textiles with gravity, absorbing light the way the cloud forest absorbs sound. The blanket as shelter. Inward, like everything in Respira.

Alexandra Yan Wong

The relic light (Respira)

Ink and torn paper, light emerging from a dark ground. Her collages read as works found in the building rather than hung in it. Light-from-dark is Respira's whole thesis — restoration, painted.

Hiroko Takeda

The air (Vergel)

Open waffle-grid in bone and oatmeal, structure made of air. Light and breeze move through her weave the way they move through a courtyard. Outward, like everything in Vergel.

Brice Marden

The wandering line (Vergel)

A single calligraphic line meandering across luminous warm grounds — joy by restraint. The line always arrives. His wandering line, built at full scale, becomes the labyrinth itself. Color-from-warm-ground is Vergel's thesis; his line becomes the hotel.

Objects

Cousins, not twins, scaling from key to textile.

RESPIRA

  • KEY : Verdigris bronze, blue-green oxidation. The first thing you hold; it sets the patina the whole suite answers to.
  • CATCH ALL : Verdigris bronze dish, oxidized to match the key. Where you set the room down at the end of the day — the key, the small things, kept in the suite's own metal.
  • VESSEL : Dark walnut bath flask. Turned, not cast — the hand stays visible, like memory.
  • INSTRUMENT : Body brush, pale tampico bristles. Ritual made object; the bath is Respira's whole argument.
  • DOOR SIGN: Cast metal, verdigris patina. A declaration that the room is the hotel experience, still unfolding. The stay is the world, not a place to leave.
  • THROW : Brent Wadden — charcoal flat-weave. Weight you can feel; the room's gravity, woven.

VERGEL

  • KEY : Pale cream stoneware, soft matte sand-texture. Respira's bronze, answered in clay — one system, two temperatures.
  • CATCH ALL : Pale stoneware bowl, speckled clay. The bronze dish, answered in clay — same gesture, warmer hand. Where the day's small things rest.
  • VESSEL : Pale ash table carafe. For the table, not the bath; Vergel pours outward.
  • INSTRUMENT : Serving scoop — bulb handle to spade blade. Vergel's ritual is the meal; the object serves company.
  • DOOR SIGN : Sandstone, cast larger than the hand.
  • THROW : Hiroko Takeda — open waffle-weave. The lightness of the place, woven — air made material.

WAYFINDING

Incised, Never Applied

SPATIAL LOGIC

The stay sequenced as architecture: arrival, the room, the ritual space, dissolution.

Inward, downward, to water — every corridor presses toward the bath at the heart.

The stay sequenced toward company: the courtyard, the communal table, the club at the labyrinth's core.

Outward, downward, together — every path ends in company.

INTERNAL EXPERIENCE

The Source

You descend, alone, to water.

The Labyrinth

You descend, together, to the table.

MEMORY TALISMANS

The Recording

You leave with the sound of the days you were here.

Across each stay, the laurisilva is recorded — the real forest, not a loop. The guest is given a wooden card with their dates incised into that plays the recording of their own stay: the rain, the wind in the canopy, the hours they spent inside those moments. Nothing staged. What the place actually sounded like, while they were in it.

Everything you carry out of Respira.

Five objects, one family — the key, the vessel, the brush, the door sign, the throw. Cousins, not twins. The stay, made to hold.

The Memory Book

You never see the camera. You see the book.

A hidden photographer moves through Vergel — never posed, never announced. At checkout, the guest is handed a hand-bound book of a stay they didn't know was being kept.

Respira sends you home with a feeling recorded. Vergel sends you home with a feeling bound — the
remembering self, given a body.

Everything you carry out of Vergel.

The same family, turned warm. The stay doesn't end at checkout — it leaves with you, in your hands.
